Once Upon a Tea....

Our Speaker

Kathleen McKern Verigin was first recognized as a storyteller by her kindergarten teacher, in the form of a reprimand. She had so much to say that she grew up to pursue a career in broadcasting, first in radio promotions and copywriting, and then broadcast television. Kathleen was employed by KATU-TV for thirteen years, six of which were spent as senior producer of AM Northwest. She jumped ship to KGW-TV to write and produce documentaries. Her gift of storytelling caused Kathleen to receive an Emmy Award in 1991.

Today Kathleen is a licensed and ordained New Thought minister whose focus is creating ritual and ceremony that transform life events into magical memories. For three years Kathleen served as a weekly Life Stories Guide for a local Waldorf School. It was there that she honed her skills as a storyteller as reading to the students (grades 1, 2 and 3) was discouraged.

Kathleen is an avid student of world religions, particularly stories from indigenous cultures, and specifically myths and legends from her Celtic ancestry. Kathleen, daughter of Mary Kathleen Connolly McKern, recently led a third sacred site tour of Ireland, and will lead another tour in March 2007, this one for women! She is mentored by a master storyteller in Ireland.
